Immanuel Baptist Second Mile Ministries (Local Missions)

The members and friends of Immanuel Baptist Church are involved in many types of ministries that seek to offer help, healing, and hope to people in our community. Some of these ministries seek to encourage those who serve as ministers of care in various places. Several years ago, we began to refer to these mission opportunities as Second Mile Ministries.

Mission Meal:
Once a month members of our congregation prepare, serve, and share a dinner with the residents of River City Mission, an area homeless shelter. This meal normally takes place on the third Thursday of each month.  Contact person: Nancy Holm.

Homebound Ministry:
Immanuel has many members and friends confined to their homes or to residential centers. Through homebound ministries, an individual befriends one of these persons visiting them monthly, calling them, and delivering Sunday School and devotional literature. We also utilize holidays as an occasional to deliver special gifts to each of these members to encourage them.  Contact person:  Steve Skaggs

Encore:
Encore is an after-school childcare program offered by Immanuel to the families of Paducah and McCracken County. Volunteers are needed to assist with homework, to offer enrichment programs, and to befriend young school-age children. Contact person: Christina Crice

Habitat for Humanity:
For the past seven years, Immanuel has been very active in building houses through Habitat for Humanity by purchasing and installing the insulation for every house that Habitat builds. In 1999, we built our first house from start to finish. Immanuel currently provides insulation for new Habitat homes, including a team that installs the insulation.
Immanuel was also a part of the 2006 Apostle’s Build, a cooperative effort of local congregations to build a home.  Contact person:  Erin Miller
Paducah Cooperative Ministries:
Immanuel provides financial support for PCM through our regular budget, but also supports PCM in other ways as well.  Food collections to benefit PCM are held on both a church-wide and particular group level throughout the year.  In 2005, members of Immanuel were also integral to the renovation of the building PCM now calls home.

Friendship International:
This ministry of the Baptist Women of the West Union Baptist Association meets each Thursday at Immanuel. Volunteers are needed to befriend internationals moving to Paducah, to teach English as a second language, to teach crafts, and to lead Bible studies.

A Comforting Presence:
Following the death of a member of our congregation, we offer to prepare and serve a meal for the family in their home or at the church. Volunteers prepare dishes for the meal and/or serve the meal. Contact person: Carolyn Brown.

Martha's Vineyard:
Members of Immanuel support Martha's Vineyard by delivering the meals this organization prepares for people of our community.

Share the Joy:
Each Christmas, members and friends of Immanuel assist less-advantaged families in our community with Christmas. Volunteers are needed to conduct interviews, to shop, to wrap presents, and to package Christmas food baskets. Names, ages, and sizes are shared with members of Immanuel who purchase the Christmas gifts for children. The church provides underclothing and socks. Contact person:  Erin Miller

Relay for Life:
Immanuel is an annual sponsor and participant in this American Cancer Society fundraiser held each spring in McCracken County.  Contact person:  Erin Miller

Russian Mission:
Immanuel has a partnership with Klintsy Baptist Church of Klintsy, Russia since 1996.  This partnership is now entering its fourth year. Each summer members of Immanuel journey to Klintsy to assist in Bible School, evangelistic outreach, and construction. A new church was dedicated in November of 1998, and the construction of an orphanage is now completed as well. Contact person: Jamie Broome.

Financial Support:
Immanuel also financially supports several mission/ministry organizations in our area and around the world.  Through our budget, we give financially to local ministries:  Paducah Cooperative Ministry, River City Mission, Morningstar Mission, Genesis Children's Home, St. Nicholas Clinic, Martha's Vineyard, as well as local benevolence gifts.  We support mission work throughout the state and world through gifts to the Baptist World Alliance, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, Kentucky Baptist Convention, West Union Baptist Association, and the Southern Baptist Convention's International Mission Board and North American Mission Board.  We also financially support our friends in faith at a congregation in Klintsy through our partnership with them.
